We had previously been on Scenic River cruises and were exceptionally pleased with every aspect of the trip. It was a true 5-star experience so we had high expectations for this ocean cruise. The ship can accommodate 200 passengers. On this cruise from San Diego to Vancouver, only 128 guests were aboard. BUT half of them were traveling for free since they were travel agents, so only about 60 paying guests.
The letdown started even before the cruise began. We purchased the highest category stateroom suite - Panorama Cabin. We received no advance ability to select excursions or any dining reservations. Upon boarding, these assignments were in our room, selected by Scenic.
When we attempted to change any of them, we were told everything is "fully booked". How is this possible with half capacity and why would you ever refuse a paying guest in favor of a travel agent? Yet we saw that behavior every day. The travel agents were given great attention and fawn over by all personnel.
Cabin Review
Large, spacious two-room suite. Well equipped with a few flaws. The sliding door between the living room and the bedroom has no latch, so it slid open and closed all night as the ship rocked. We experienced the "orange" water in our bathtub, this was reported by others as well. Butler service was excellent as he had come from a river cruise so he understood passenger treatment.
