Joined others on this voyage to celebrate one of our travel family member's 80th birthday. She has some 40+ cruises on several different lines, but likes HAL as one of her top 3 lines. Over-all the cruise was enjoyable, but at a lower level in many respects when compared to pre-covid cruises. I think we all understand that the industry lost a ton of money, sold ships to the scrappers to offset some of the loss, and curtailed cosmetic maintenance while ships were laid up. So the Eurodam did benefit from a brief visit to the drydock in March of 2023, which replaced the carpeting in the dining room as well as the chairs. But a glance to the ceiling in that room showed spots of discoloration, likely due to condensation when laid up. Other parts of the ceiling showed the covering to be detaching from the base of the ceiling.

Crew were busy on this cruise painting the scuppers, on deck 11, and the entire surrounding area of the movable pool roof, so there was evidence of recognition the ship needed to get out of deferred maintenance mode.

As with other cruise lines, customers are complaining menu selections had several items that were never changed. One was Lasagna which was a semi liquid meat paste inserted between 2 large noodles. Some dishes were quite small, notably potato items that were usually a patty the size of a soup spoon. Quality and quantity on other dishes was very good, such as steak and salmon which were available most nights. Missing entirely were the cold soup offerings as starters.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Spa Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

VQ cabin 100** was very nice and TRY our cabin steward was excellent. He knew our names on the second day, refreshed the cabin twice a day (he and his helper do 30 cabins a day!) Interestingly, the verandah is shorter than those on deck 8 by about a foot. The bathroom needs another shelf and the shower equipment is fun to operate. The knobs on the handles you turn for temperature has one knob that you can push in and turn for hotter water, bypassing the normal hot water stop. So if you like it hot, push down on the knob as you turn the handle! The beds are oversized twin size, so with them pushed together you have a queen + size bed. Lumpy, but slept well and the room was amazingly quiet.
