We have previously sailed several times on Viking's 900+ passenger ocean ships and when Viking told us of a sale on several itineraries on their small expedition ship (376 passengers), we looked at this one and chose it. The ship is beautiful. We selected a deluxe balcony room which was the best room available on sale but were concerned that, because it was smaller than the "penthouse" we usually choose, we would not have enough room for all our luggage contents. But, to our surprise, the room was so well designed that we had more than enough room for our 4 suitcase contents. Though we're not big drinkers, I like having the "silver spirits" package so that we don't get nickeled and dimed for drink charges at the end of the trip. I was disappointed by how many ports required us to be "at anchor". One of the reasons for selecting a small ship is its ability to get into smaller ports. I did feel that this itinerary included some ports which could have been skipped whereas it would have been nice to have two days in New York City. We didn't think the food was as good as on the Ocean ships but the bakery was great. And because the ship is small, the baking is done right in the World Cafe so you could watch the bakers do their stuff. The Grill and the Sushi station were nice additions and the sushi was very good. I enjoyed trying out the Special Operations Boats though they were just used as amusements on this voyage as they had no place to go. On this particular voyage there was no ability to try out the submarines and I passed on the Zodiac ride as it went nowhere too. A beautiful ship, very nice crew, a captain who was seen everywhere, interesting lectures. We'll do it again.
