We have cruised with Princess pre-covid on Island & Sapphire so were looking forward to this holiday, but what a disappointment.
Perhaps ships of this size are not for us, but we really struggled with the number of fellow passengers. Princess seem to have sacrificed public spaces for cramming on extra cabins. We heard many comments about the lack of available seats in bars / lounges particularly pre and post dinner.
We tend not to visit the theatre so we cannot comment on the shows, but we struggled to find any entertainment to our taste. It's a very personal thing but we found music in the public areas was very dull, repetitive and often very loud (mainly one of two female singers with various accompanists). Take Five is a great idea, but the same jazz every night is a bit much. Maybe other styles of music could be presented there too.
We had a mini-suite on deck 8, Emerald 7**, towards the rear of the ship. The cabin itself was well appointed and we were looked after very well by our steward.
BUT . . . . the cabin was directly above the Vista Lounge and we experienced considerable noise from below both during the day and evening / night. I did visit the Customer Service Desk who took note of our issues but were unable to do anything as there were no spare cabins of a similar grade. I know that other passengers nearby also complained to the Customer Service Desk.
On one morning (a port day) my wife was unwell and remained in the cabin whilst I explored the ship. When I returned the noise from below was very evident and my wife had not been able to sleep. I did go into the Vista Lounge (which was closed) to find a female singer rehearsing at painfully high volume. I spoke to someone in the lounge who said they would turn it down but we noticed no difference.
Every night we could hear whatever was going on in the lounge – sing-along `Delilah` and `Rocking All Over the World` at 2am is really not acceptable.
There was no indication when booking that there was likely to be disturbance in this area of the ship, and the issue had a major negative impact on our enjoyment of the cruise as we expected the cabin to be a quiet haven away from the general busyness of the ship.
