My wife and I took a nine day cruise up the Australian coast departing from Sydney. Biggest port of call was Cairns and a couple of smaller places in Queensland. My biggest error was selecting a cruise right dab in the middle of a school semester break resulting in hundreds of kids joining us on the cruise. While the ship officially holds about 3100 folks, a couple of times the announced number of cruisers on board was about 4,000.
Embarkation:
Truly a breeze. The ship used the Overseas Terminal near the Circular Quay in Sydney Harbor. We got there at our appointed time and were in our cabin within twenty minutes. There was some confusion regarding a COVID test, but we had it all and sailed through the documentation check.
Great cabin. Only caveat was we had to take quick showers or the drain would back up and overflow into the bathroom
About a 40 minute trip by lifeboat to a local marina. Had a nice lunch, but not much to see in the local area. Time on shore, including transit was about four hours. Really not worth it.
