I am currently voyaging on the Valiant Lady’s transatlantic crossing to Barcelona. It’s a comfortable, stylish ship. The food, as you may have heard, is in fact very good. The staff is kind and considerate. My cabin is comfortable. The problem is the promise of “free exercise classes” and “great shows”. The venues for both of these is so small, and there are so few of them offered daily, that they can accommodate very few people. Many of us have not been able to sign up for a single exercise class. VHS workout that’s supposed to be so fun? The Bungee class? Forget about it. If you sit on the app and keep refreshing it, you might get lucky if in that very moment someone cancels their ticket. OR, you might be a “rockstar” - someone who’s paid a lot more than the average “sailor” for a suite, because the slots for classes and shows are first reserved for them. That little fun fact came straight out of the mouth of a rockstar. On Virgin, you’ve got to pay to play. So, I am calling Virgin out for false advertising - falsely advertising free exercise classes and nightly shows. You are, however, free to wander the ship for days with nothing to do. I know, I didn’t see that little perk in their advertising either. On board, for us non rockstars, it’s the hunger games. The good news is that you’ll have a lot of time to keep refreshing that app. You could get lucky.
