We were fans of Crystal Cruises and were looking for a replacement after Crystal folded. We had hoped that Regent would offer a similar experience. It did not. The room (we were the lowest price expensive category) was very small apart from the balcony and there was limited storage. I had to keep half of my clothes in my suitcase under the bed. We have had more storage on lesser priced ships. We had thought that the food and service on this ship should be outstanding. It was not. The main restaurant Compass Rose was barely adequate. One evening we waited for over an hour for our entrees. When they came after having to track down the waiter, the entrees were lukewarm. The specialty restaurants were better but not outstanding. We have had similar quality at the specialty restaurants on several of the modestly priced alternative cruise lines. The drinks were all inclusive but the choices were not outstanding when it came to alcohol brands or wine choices. The tours which were included were well organized although the guides were not outstanding. The entertainment was fine but there was no classical music. The lectures were good. The crew is very friendly and tries hard to please. At the same time, I saw little effort beyond our room stewards to get to know the guests by name or personalize service. The bottom line from our view is that Regent is a poor substitute for the old Crystal.
