We had gone on a river cruise with Viking about four years ago, before anyone ever heard of Covid. That cruise was the “grand cruise” that Viking does starting in Amsterdam and going to Budapest over the course of two weeks.

This cruise was a bit shorter and went from Zurich to Paris over twelve days. The Herja is of course identical to all of the other sister river ships. We had a cabin on level one which is below the waterline and has only a slight window. It didn’t really matter in April because it was too cold to sit on a private balcony, and it rained about 50% of the time.

It is the rainy season in Europe so that needs to be taken into account. Bring a raincoat. Viking supplies umbrellas at no charge. Complimentary water is given out for each daily excursion. The cabin itself was a little tight but comfortable, the cleaning staff is super efficient. We used the window ledge for extra storage space and just closed the curtain.
