Le Boreal Review

Superb service, food, cabin, comfort and crew. But a warning about balcony doors.

Sail Date: Feb 2023

This cruise was a few years coming because of Covid, cancellations and non-refundable payments. However, it was well worth waiting for. Food, crew, comfort, organisation, helpfulness, friendliness, arrival and departure processes were all excellent. This was an Expedition cruise which meant we had twice-daily expeditions on zodiacs to either explore or land on Antarctica. These expeditions were managed extremely well by the onboard expeditioners and crew, and we all felt very safe away from the ship. The captain was very present, friendly, kind and from what we heard, loved by his crew. This in turn reflects all the way across to passenger satisfaction. We were all encouraged to visit the bridge at any time and this invitation stayed for the duration of the cruise. I've done many cruises all over the world and this rated number one for me. My only warning and criticism is that the doors between cabin and balcony, if slammed shut while you're outside during ship movement, will lock behind you! There is no warning on the door or anywhere. In Antarctic conditions where outside air temperature is below freezing at all times even in Summer, this is very dangerous. I know of at least 3 occasions where guests were locked outside with little clothing on and had to scream, shout, bang chairs on doors and balcony dividers before anyone became aware. At least a warning sign should be placed on the door until the problem is fixed. Or an emergency button. The pre-cruise tour through Ponant had wrong visa information resulting in border problems and loss of half the tour as outlined.

Cabin Review

Great space, beautiful bathroom with excellent toiletries and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, anywhere. Tea requests were fulfilled and a coffee machine in every cabin. Bar fridge kept up-to-date. My only warning and criticism is that the door between cabin and balcony, if slammed shut accidentally while you're outside, will lock behind you! There is no warning on the door or anywhere. In Antarctic conditions where air temperature is below freezing at all times, this is very dangerous. Port Reviews

Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego)

Ushuaia is the departure and arrival port for this Antarctic cruise. It's a small place with not much to offer in town but a National park nearby and spectacular mountains behind the town.
