We chose this cruise because of the itinerary to the Amazon and because we had been on a fantastic cruise on the Regent Explorer last fall. There was no comparison between the 2 experiences and we brought another couple with us on the Voyager after telling them how great Regent is! The cabins & public spaces on the Voyager need to be completely redone but really I think Regent should just sell the ship. It is nothing like the Explorer. Fortunately the bed was comfortable enough and our cabin stewards did a great job, but the bathroom was depressing due to age and poor lighting. The laundry service was a highlight.
The food on the Voyager did not compare to the Explorer either. We desperately missed the Asian restaurant but even in the two specialty restaurants there were problems. Food might be undercooked (lobster) or overcooked (chicken). Service was overall very disappointing. Sometimes we had to skip dessert to get to the show the service was so slow. Sometimes a course was skipped, or sides forgotten. We did complain and I believe many others did too, but other than apologies we never found out what was wrong. We wondered if Regent had cut back on staff or if there was an illness among staff during our cruise. The Buffet and Pool Grill were generally good. Towards the end of the cruise, they began running out of things, and we also speculated that perhaps they were not properly provisioned in Rio. Wines were often disappointing too.
Entertainment was overall acceptable but the outstanding young singers and dancers only did 4 shows on a 21 night cruise. They were very under used. Guest entertainers and speakers were OK. Excursions were generally good.
