This was our 6th Viking river cruise and we have been running out of rivers. We read a lot about the Dordogne river region, we knew nothing about the Garonne river, and wanted to see the area and the city of Bordeaux. We can see now that compared to our past river cruises, this part of France was not as picturesque and interesting. It was really all about wine. While appreciating the opportunity to learn a great deal about wine making and to taste some wonderful wines, we realized that we would prefer to see more interesting towns, experience more history, maybe see cave paintings and enjoy beautiful landscapes along river banks. But the cruise itself was wonderful as usual. We enjoyed the amazing attention to our needs and impeccable service, friendliness of all the staff, great food and the opportunity to meet many interesting people from all the corners of the US.
