Traveled with children

We did our first family cruise with our 12 year old son and 6 year old daughter. My husband and I cruised alone in 2022, so we wanted our kids to have a fun cruise experience to the Caribbean. We departed out of NOLA, where we did some non-NCL tours prior to and after the cruise. NOLA isn't kid-friendly, but we did enjoy our time there. I heard a lot of complaints about the NOLA terminal, but we found that it was organized enough. We showed up around 9:45 AM, and we boarded the ship around 11:15 AM. It looked like customs getting off the ship took a while, as people were still getting off the ship after 10 AM. We did self-disembarkation. We were in line at 7:15AM, and we were off the ship by 7:50AM.

We overall had a great time, but I'll categorize our experiences for clarity.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

The port was definitely like a maze to get out. If all you wanted to do was sit by a "beach" or pool and shop, you didn't have to leave the port. We did a private tour with Native Choice to see Chacchoben and a Mayan Village, and both experiences were very memorable. The drive was 60 minutes and bumpy, but worth it.

Cozumel

Definitely a lot of stuff available right around the port. We went to Chankanaab, and it was only a $15 taxi ride there. Although they didn't have a great typical beach, they had a good snorkeling area. They also had a lot of services there like massages, animal experiences, Mayan replicas, etc. We did the Manatee experience and booked directly with the company. It was great, but the photos were not cheap!

Harvest Caye

This was way bigger and better than I thought it'd be. The water was calm and warm. We went into the beach, the pool, and the splash pad. Also, if you don't want to pay for a clam shell, but you want some shade, get out early. They had a lot of paid activities that we didn't do, but I'd consider it at another visit. It was also HOT and humid. I'd definitely visit again.

Roatan

There was so much to this island--I'd definitely go back. We did a group tour with Victor Bodden with sloths, "island tour", and a beach break. The water was super clear and amazing. We paid extra for my husband and son to go out snorkeling around the reef. They said it was amazing. There were also lots of vendors and various activities at the beaches. I'd highly recommend it.
