This was my husband and my second viking cruise. This is our travel choice when we want to see a whole lot in a short time. We are both working and time off is a premium. When we list all we saw and did at the end of a Viking cruise it is astonishing. On this trip, all the big sites of Paris, including 4 major art museums (I love art) and 4 castles and palaces. We art all the best french food (off the ship). We strolled along the Seine. We spent a moving day at the Normandy beaches and cemeteries. We also saw the French countryside and were able to explore several small towns.
We made some of our museum and dining arrangements ourselves, because I like to do that. We took all of the included excursions, and they were all very good. And we also added Versailles and Montmartre. We were in Paris during the strikes but Viking insulated us from any inconvenience in transportation or plans. That was amazing to us.
Yes, the food on the ship is very good but not as good as the food in a good or as adventurous as a good restaurant in France. So we got off the boat to eat often. Viking has to please every taste and they do a very good job at that but it does result in aiming for the mid-range tastes.
We had a french balcony room. It is our favorite. Good view and a good value. Small but it is a cabin on a ship and expected. We spent almost no time awake in it anyway. The bed was great. The bathroom very functional. We had enough storage and the views were spectacular.
