We booked this cruise years ago because of Ukraine and the Black Sea, understandably, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria was dropped, but we hoped for the best at Greek Isles.

Our group spent 2-3 extra days at Athens prior to boarding, and started off with an extensive 2-day land tour with with no less than an archeologist, MariaElena Christopoulou. Daughter made all arrangements for tours and drivers for seamless vacation. We are a group of 12 persons, with 2 units of 2-bedroom Villas at Haven, each apartment had a couple assigned to their own room with toilet and bath, the rest are RNs either retired or on vacay. Our check in came a bit of surprise because our US passports were taken, no clear explanation why guest services are “safekeeping” our passports.

The Athens porters took all our luggages, unfortunately, one carry-on by a new cruiser was stolen or “lost” and NCL manager was not very helpful at all. Needless to say, the entire week was marked with stress trying to get medications to our group who lost her luggage, and essentials. Cash of $500 was in there too. I personally saw the Athens porter carried her bag, swiftly put it on top of other luggages. NCL concierge denied any liability. Next day, I demanded for our US passports as we are not comfortable traveling, leaving the ship without out passports. What if we get left behind at Turkey? The Haven concierge Julia finally came back with explanation that it was a legal country reqt, not NCL. I still have to verify that.

Cabin Review

Courtyard Villa with Balcony

The space is a little too small for the 2-bedroom villas, the courtyard on 14th floor served as addl space to hang out. The balcony is too tight.

Port Reviews

Athens (Piraeus)

Excellent, allow at least 2-3 days to explore. Get an archeologist for a knowledgeable guide. Daughter’s GoTravelista.com who serves as concierge for my travel group, hired MariaElena Christopoulou and our private van driver.

Santorini

The best of cruise ports in between, one day is enough to include photo shoots, wear your nostalgic best but bring comfortable shoes to hike. A great cam or iPad will do for photography. Opt for a sunset shoot if your trip allows it.

Rhodes

Don’t miss the Grand Knight Palace close to the port, but beware of expensive shops and have lunch at the 1967 resto Mama Sofia, try their good cuisine and homegrown honey tea. Beware of taxi drivers who can charge exorbitant price of 50 euros per head to take you to the Mediterranean Seaside and some carpet weaving places which you probably have seen at Turkey. I hired a taxi in the line and was charged 50 euros for the whole cab ride of one hour for the Aegean Sea side, ending at the Grand Knight Palace. We found one shop selling Greek designed handmade copper jewelry, gold plated selling between 15-30 euros per piece (ring, earrings, bracelet, arm bands, choker) Copper based is bendable.

The same design you might find at Santorini for 5-10 euros but the difference is the metal (more like China made).
