We had high expectations for our Viking river cruise along the Rhine river, unfortunately everything was a little flat and slightly disappointing. The food was good but not great, the service was nice but not exceptional and there was little entertainment on the ship. We are active and in our early 60's and it felt like the cruise caters to an older slower going crowd. Breakfast was the best meal with a lot of choices, however there was not a lot of variety on a day to day basis. Dinners were good, but we expected more local selections (i.e. German and French choices). We did not have lunch on the boat.

On the plus side, the ports we visited were nice and the walking shore excursions were very informative. The ship was roomy and quite clean. Our cabin was well appointed and the bathroom was well designed and felt roomy for a cruise.

Net/net - We expected a premium cruise experience from Viking and feel we received a middle of the road version.
