We love the Edge class ships so the Edge was a no-brainer for us. We had never been to Cartagena, Aruba, or Curacao before so we were looking forward to dipping our toes in the waters of South America for the first time. Sailing was smooth, calm winds and sunny skies.
Cartegena was definately not fun. We did a bus tour and we stayed on the bus and observed while other passengers got off and were swarmed like mosquitos by hustlers. The guy selling a stack of hats would literally walk up to you and put the hat on your head. I'm not the kind of person that likes that type of selling (and I've seen too many episodes of locked up abroad) so we saw Cartegena from the bus. Some of the things I saw made me cry. Needless to say I'll not be visiting that city ever again.
Aruba felt very touristy near the port and I didn't venture much further. Curacao was surprisingly magnificent with it's very European style charm mixed with lovely people everywhere. This is a city I plan to revisit.
The Edge Villa is the perfect lover's delight. We loved the modern design, layout, location, convenience to the Retreat Lounge, and all of the wonderful perks that go along with having an upper suite. There is a TON of closet space. If you are a party of 2 you will have room to spare. The bed is very comfortable and being able to ly there and watch the ocean go by is so relaxing (bed faces the window). I love the fact that the TV comes down from the ceiling. Just don't forget to raise it back up at night (learned that the hard way on a previous trip). The balcony is comfy and well appointed. I used the plunge pool every night. They do have to drain and refill it every day due to exposure. The living area is well situated and the beverage cooler was always stocked. As long as you don't have a problem with stairs (its a townhouse style unit) there is nothing about this room that I would change. My cabin I loved it because you can step outside your front door and use the Retreat backdoor for a quick snack or drink!
It is a beautiful island. The water is just the right shades of blue. The diverse people are warm and friendly. You can access shopping restaurants and beautiful scenery from the port if you don't mind a walk.
