I had cruised NCL once 2 years ago in Alaska and found it very pleasant. This was anything but. The entire ship smelled like an ashtray due to no one enforcing smoking policies. People openly smoked in the pool area, and casino. And who thought of a cigar room? once that door opened cigar smoke billowed out into the rest of the ship. The food was mediocre at best and very limited selection. I drink decaf for health reasons and even after I asked twice if I was being given decaf coffee, I was given regular. my heart was racing so bad I thought I was going to pass out. According to my fitbit, my resting heart rate was 120. Food was mislabeled on the buffet. Indian Butter Chicken was tofu. Fine with me but someone with a soy allergy would be dead.

The ship was noisy all hours making it difficult to get any sleep. The ship was late for every port so the excursions were cut short, cancelled or incredibly rushed. Boarding the ship was like a mass cattle call. I think they tried to board all 6000 people at once. And once aboard we were told none of our cabins were ready. I did not get my luggage until 830pm. All I wanted was a hot shower, change of clothes and a meal. At least I got the meal. Some of the shore excursions included water but many did not and it wasn't clear what was offered. NCL would sell you a bottle of water for $6 as you exited the ship. All of the shops in the port were owned by the cruise lines and very expensive. The area outside of the port was too dangerous to venture out and about.

There were multiple injuries aboard ship from broken collar bones to seizures to back and neck injuries. All I wanted to do was get the heck off that ship and go home.

Cabin Review

Cabin was OK. the steward was very nice. However, the solo cabins have their own lounge with a small bar, coffee machine and snacks. Solo people who had their families staying in cabins outside of the solo area were brining them into the solo lounge making it incredibly crowed and noisy. I saw one of the crew moving regular beans to the decaf bin on the coffee maker. I have to drink decaf for health reasons and I was panicking. She said not to worry, ALL of the coffee beans were decaf and showed me the bags. wow. Just wow.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

we were so rushed due to the ship being late that we had no time to stop for any shopping. One the way back, we ran into a military road block. The bus was almost boarded by military armed with automatic weapons. Not where I wanted to be.

Harvest Caye

rushed through this port as well. Shops were very expensive as they were owned by the cruise lines

Roatan

just scary. Afraid to go anywhere. People trying to grab you and shove you into taxis.

Cozumel

one of the better ports and better excursions. snorkel excursion had water, beer and snacks as well as a photographer who offered pictures of the experience. Tour was top notch. Port was pricey but felt safer than any other port.

New Orleans

scary, filthy port with homeless people surrounding the whole thing. Difficult to get in and out of the cruising area.
