Rounded up from 2.5:
We have cruised with Marella in the past and have enjoyed the experience, this time however there were a number of significant issues which marred the experience:
- Before we even left the country, we received an email to say that the cabin we had had reserved for 18 months was no longer available so we would be moved. The email was very unhelpful, didn't explain at all what the issue was and felt abrupt and patronising. We were told that it was too late to change baggage labels to the cabin we had been lumped with so we would have to cross out the cabin we had reserved and write on the new cabin. We were also told that the £50 fee to reserve a cabin would be refunded onto our ship account and we would have to go to Reception to ask for it to be refunded back via the payment method used to book the holiday. There was no offer of compensation in any form.
The cabin had just been refurbished in November 2022 so was pretty much brand new. We loved the cabin (apart from the noise), it had a seating area with TV, coffee table etc, a balcony with two loungers and a table and chairs, a beautiful bathroom with a bathtub and a very comfy bed. There was plenty of storage and we really only missed having a fridge, which seemed an unusual thing to miss out.
If you are thinking of booking an Executive Suite I would advise staying away from cabin 8004 as it was extremely noisy. We had originally booked 8001 which I think would have been a lot quieter, I am planning to complain to TUI about their handling of this situation.
Love Barbados! We have been here twice and had a great time both times. We visited The Boatyard which has a beautiful beach with white sand and clear blue water. We haven't seen a lot of the island other than this and the port area but would definitely come back, maybe for a longer holiday.
