Sailed on the ncl sun from lisbon to the canary islands and while the cruise was ok it was far from great. time after time we saw little things that showed a lack of attention to detail. there were many examples. the cabin stewards filled the halls with cleaning equipment early each morning and it stayed there unused until late in the day. there were no washcloths. there was no towel animal! the body wash in the shower dispensed something nearer to water than soap. the balcony door had to be yanked hard to lock or unlock. some of the elevator displays showing the floor number did not work. most of the treadmills in the fitness center were at least partially non-functional. you could not access your online account on the cabin tv. there were slight sewage odors from time to time. safety drill was poorly organized and took way too long. the ship library was small and usually closed. entertainment was limited and some of the lounge acts were second rate. on the main stage several nights there were nowhere shows like the newlywed game. the buffet seating was small and crowded. the selection at the buffet was somewhat lacking for example there was never any sushi. The food relied heavily on cheaper ingredients such as tilapia and endless chicken variations. some but not all of the fried items had the texture of reheated frozen food. The basics such as olives at the salad bar and smoked salmon for breakfast were missing. the salad dressings were cheap and had an off flavor. the meats and fish were usually way overcooked. vegetables were steamed too much. sauces were either missing or contained too much curry. pasta sauces were like something out of a can.

There were many good points however. shore excursions were well organized. the crew was friendly and polite. the ship was always on schedule. the entertainment from the production cast was good to very good. the magician shows were extremely good. the main dining room had great food and perfect service. the dessert selection was limited but what they had was mostly pretty tasty. when they served shrimp or carved beef or lamb it was enjoyable. fresh fruits were abundant. made to order omelets and crepes were excellent.

Overall, just an average to slightly below average cruise on a ship that is showing its age.
