This itinerary was enticing, down the Amazon River, Brazilian ports, lots of days at sea. Our third Oceania sail, second on Marina, our favorite ship, not too big, not too small, all specialty restaurants included.

Passengers who chose shore excursions sponsored by Oceania were generally disappointed. Brazilians do not categorically learn English; these ports do not get many cruise ships due to the water levels on the Amazon. Passengers who researched and booked smaller, private tours were very happy with their experiences. I highly recommend doing your research and booking your own tours (higher quality, less expense).

As usual, the staff throughout the ship were exemplary for their service and attitude. A few stand-outs: the tall Italian guy at Barista's who was optimistic, funny, competent, and elevated his job to the highest level. Also, our Honduras room steward, Ishtar, was a genuine sweetie. She took some initiative: when we returned from Toscana (Italian restaurant) where the staff accommodated nine of us for my husband's BD dinner, to our surprise our room was filled with balloons, along with a giant, three-tiered cake, turtle and rabbit (all made of towels) on our bed.

In the future, I would avoid our cabin: 10043 for several reasons: it was below the pool deck so overhead scraping sounds from deck chairs being moved every morning 7-8-ish am. It had a creak when the seas were rough. The A1 cabin came with access to the Concierge Lounge. The Executive Lounge was just outside our door, but for the Concierge Lounge, we had to go down two floors. The concierge, Carlos, in the Concierge Lounge was awesome, though. Very good at karaoke, as well.
