Everything about this cruise was subpar. The décor was dated and tacky. The cleanliness was lacking - it was visibly dirty. The food was unexciting, and unappetizing. The entertainment was embarrassing. The check in process was a disaster. There were billing issues. There were issues on the private island (Ocean Cay) There was poor Wi-Fi and a broken satellite. There was no information on what to pack and conflicting information on dress codes. Subpar is generous.
On the first day, checking into the cruise was a complete disaster. Everything is manual and on paper. Everything. You had to print paper tickets! There was line after line after line - line up to get your luggage checked. (They really tried hard to get me to let the porter take the luggage and tip him.) It had already been a stressful 45 minutes to drive 2.2 miles to park near the terminal. Then, the TSA person checking luggage was screaming at people. I think she nearly got into a fist fight with her supervisor! Not a good look. You had to then line up to check in at the desk. You then had to wait to get called to line up a third time to get to the ship. Our travel party had been at the terminal for nearly 4 hours before their group was maybe called. We never heard an announcement, so we eventually just gave up and went to get in line. They let us on. I think we'd still be sitting there otherwise. It was a total nightmare.
When we finally boarded, we decided to put the stress behind us and have a celebratory drink to start vacation off. Apparently the cruise before us had chartered the boat, drank all the liquor and then were "blacked out drunk" the morning of disembarkation - which is why there was such a problem getting on board. Not our problem. However, we encountered lots of embarrassed waiters and bartenders who didn't have liquor to make drinks, or some ingredients for the food we wanted to order. That went on for the whole first day, and part of the second day.
