After this cruise was cancelled a few times due to the pandemic I was starting to worry if I was actually going to get there. I am so glad that it finally happened, it made me remember why I love cruising and it felt like it was my first cruise all over again, for context my last cruise was in September 2019.
I will make a quick disclaimer about the ship itself. When it was initially ordered and built, the line was going to post the ship out of Shanghai, China for most of the year. Which lead to some design differences in comparison to its older sisters, Royal and Regal. The Italian specialty restaurant is replaced with Harmony which is a Chinese/ Cantonese Restaurant. There are a lot more shops on board because the Chinese like to shop, brands like Cartier and Bvlgari on Deck 7 and the randomly placed gift shop on Deck 5, the Casino has a different design because the Chinese like to gamble. The Hollywood Pool Club and Conservatory (an enclosed equivalent to the retreat pool and The Sanctuary) was built in a way because the Chinese aren't big fans of sunbaking and also because the ship was going to be deployed in Asia year-round. The basketball court and walking/jogging track are different designs, and you see a lot of signs in both English and Chinese. If you can't see the trend by now might I suggest you don't cruise on this ship. If you do sail on Majestic don't complain because you have been warned!
I will admit I am not a difficult person to please. This is why I can say I had a good time, the food was good, the ship was good and the cruise was good in general. I truly don't think there was anything to complain about.
I stayed in L105.
The room was plenty spacious, with plenty of storage, and the balcony is a good size. I don't quite understand the whole controversy of people saying you can use front facing balcony on sea days, I used it on sea days and it was fine except for when it was properly windy and raining. Let's be real, if they weren't suitable for sea days would they have put balconies there? The railing is metal instead of glass which is why it is a cheaper room category, but in my mind, you get a much better room for two people. Can sleep three but too communal because it is a more square shape room then a rectangle like other minisuites which can also sleep 4.
The only thing was the showerhead was really disappointing, it was off-centre at the time of writing this, and you had to get right under it to shower but because it is a shower/bath combo your toes are getting cramps because of how the tub is angled. Get creative and see what you can do to get comfy because once you do, it's fine.
I love the princess mattress, pillows could be a little firmer for my liking but I got used to them.
All in all, Princess Cruises do really nice cabins but I can't wait for them to do away with the shower curtain. It looks and feels cheap and the polar opposite of the rest of the cabin.
There were no cruise line-operated excursions on this island, not that it's a bad thing, I think it's better, all the money spent on the island goes to the locals, considering there are only 300 people living on the island there were a variety of tours and bits and pieces for sale.
The island is not that big, the walk up the hill is a great workout and has a nice view. The island is a very well-kept secret as it isn't accessed by air. The water was clear, clean and at a lovely temperature.
