I chose this as I have cruised on Silversea and Crystal and wanted to see what Regent was like. I expected the "remarkable luxury" as stated by Regent-- which may have been an over expectation. It turned out to be no where fulfilled. I booked a penthouse Suite which included a pre cruise hotel stay. Regrettably my hotel room was dirty and all Regent guests were not given the a la carte breakfast in dining room but hurded into a windowless room with a very substandard buffet. Rotten fruit. No cooking stations , not even expresso coffee. Really quite unacceptable. I did point this out to Regent who gave me some OBC on my voyage as a 'sorry".

Room--be aware the "Penhouse Suite" is just a normal average cabin with a few perks such as laundry ( which was superb) and upmarket toiletries such as Gurlain products ( also superb). Balcony miniscule. Food. The advertising that you can be anywhere on the ship and order from the main menu is totally false. Room service was limited and definitely not "ad lib caviar". Food was by and large good but not exceptional. The pool grill was good. Service in the restaurantes --( the ship was half full) was very average. The staff were not a harmonious group--on one occasion in the coffee venue --good coffee by the way--two members of staff were opening rowing. Mostly staff excellent--the reception staff put up with a lot--I saw one woman call the man at reception an "idiot"-- ( they had apparently made a mistake) -not what one would expect from clientelle of a luxury ship.

Entertainment: poor. The Cruise Director was a very old pompous man whom the crew obviously intensely disliked. He was a puppeteer with inappropriate puppets. He also sang which at his age was quite embarrassing. The dancers were so-so. Probably the worst thing was the overall tiredness of the ship--the outdoor settings in public areas were really old, stained and really ready to be scrapped. My penthouse very average. Certainly NOT " remarkable luxury". Of course I enjoyed it --one is privileged to go on any high end ship. And it is easy to criticise. However people thinking of going on this ship should be aware of its shortcomings. I did have three cruises already booked on this ship for this year but have cancelled them.I will loose $$$ as the cancellation fee goes to FCC--but I will not be returning to Regent in the near future.
