We have been on a dozen previous cruises and this was the worst cruise by a long way. The ship, cabin and crew were all very good so what went wrong.

Breakfast was good but the rest of the food was poor. Lunch meals in the buffet looked unappetising and were cold or warm at best. Your best bet is the Ipanema restaurant but it takes a while for three course meal and we were often not on the ship until after it had closed. Evening meals first sitting was not until 7 and much later than we would like. Why not a 6 o'clock sitting? Other cruises have mainly had 5 courses with small portions. MSC has three courses. The main course often has an enormous amount of meat with almost no vegetables. On more than one occasion the meat was not properly cooked.

There is a daily programme of 30+ things to do. However these mostly consist of shopping, exercise and dance and quizzes outside in the boiling sun. No talks about where we were going or guest lecturers. Still there was always the shows to look forward to. Not for us - Spot lights directed at the audience affected my wife and we wanted to leave after a few minutes. Unfortunately we were in the middle of a row and could not escape.
