Four of us planned a 2+ week stay in Portugal and wanted to cruise our way home. Virgin had the best dates and pricing for what we wanted. 14-Nights in a "Sea Terrace" for under $3K--real value for money! Their fares include gratuities and Wifi.
None of us had done a Transatlantic cruise before and thought we might get cabin fever. Instead the the trip flew by. We had a great time. Love the specialty restaurant format vs a main dining room. Ate breakfast every morning in the Wake. Hard to beat with perfectly prepared items including New York strip steak and eggs.
The Sea Terraces are smaller than the balcony cabins on MSC, but quite sufficient. The nice rain-head shower was a nice way to start the day. The baristas in the Grounds Club on deck 7 worked their tails off and with the greatest attitudes. We way over did it on cappuccinos and chocolate croissants!
We are not big city people, but Barcelona is fantastic. Sagrada Familia alone is worth the trip.
Our excursion to Monte Palace even in the rain was fantastic. One day in Madeira was not enough. We're taking a second Transatlantic as far as Madeira and spending two weeks there in May 2023.
We just cabbed over from the port to old town and enjoyed several hours strolling the marble streets, visiting the amazing cathedral and enjoying the people and architecture. So glad we got off the ship and explored the city.
