My friend and I chose this trip as it was advertised as the perfect way to spend Christmas. We are both widows with grown children who have families of their own. We believed this trip would be beautiful and would provide us with lovely memories. Boy, were we WRONG. Viking is an ok cruise line if all goes well. However if any issue comes up, you are very much on your own. Not only does Viking do nothing to help you. They seem to try to make everything worse. We had booked the pre and post extensions through Viking, {2 nights in Munich and 2 nights in Salzburg : Precruise, and 2 nights in Budapest, postcruise.} The weather for the tours was snowy with frozen ground. I asked to stay on the bus and not make the tour as it would involved me walking about one mile uphill on frozen ground with no handrails on the trail. I was not allowed to do so. No reason was given and no effort was made to accommodate handicapped persons. When we finally boarded the ship, I was quite sick.
Our cabin was nice but, of course, we could not use our balcony due to the weather. No room service was available and we were not allowed to eat in our cabin although I was sick. The food in the dinning room was quite average, according to my friend. There was no entertainment and some of the tours were canceled due to the holidays. This sailing was the last sailing before the crew's vacation from Jan to march. The crew had certainly slacked off on this sailing. When we docked in Budapest and checked into the InterContinental I was very sick and ask the hotel to call a doctor. The doctor admitted me to the hospital on an emergency basis and I spent 4 nights in the budapest hospital. Viking did absolutely nothing to help me or my friend even though we had tripmate insurance which we bought through them. They ignore my effects to contact them. Find another line to sail with.
