Over the past ten years we have sailed with Princess, Celebrity, Crystal, Carnival, Azamara, Holland and Royal Caribbean. The first five remain contenders for future cruises, with Holland being too quiet and Royal Caribbean being too rude.
As always, Princess remains a solid value in the mid range. We had cabin Caribe 410, which meant we had a mini suite with an extended balcony. Our cabin was low enough that people on the Skywalk did not have a view of our balcony. We chose this cabin because it offers a bath tub, a larger space, and a connecting door to our daughter and son-in-law's room. When we both opened our connecting doors, we could feel as if we were sharing a large two bedroom, two bath cabin.
We had a total of four cabins for eight family members on this cruise, and one of them was a balcony cabin. I was dismayed to find out that the balcony cabin had only one chair in it and NO sofa. I have now looked on line at pictures of other balcony cabins on other Princess ships, and it seems they have done away with seating for two. Because of this, if I am bringing younger members of my family on future cruises with me, I will either have to pay for a mini suite for everyone, or I will have to choose Celebrity because it still offers a sofa at the balcony cabin level.
A mini suite cabin offers a larger size and a bathtub. We did NOT like the automatic light that came on every time we went to the bathroom at night. Very bright. I understand that Princess wants us to be safe, but I don't want a blinding light in the middle of the night.
We loved the connecting door with our daughter's cabin.
We did notice some stains in the carpeting and some rust? stains in the caulk in the bathroom, but everything was very clean. We are not fussy about stuff that does not matter. The cabin (with its sofa!) worked very well for us. Plenty of seating for us and a few family visitors.
