We chose Portugal’s River of Gold because we enjoyed the ports, people and cuisine of Portugal on ocean cruises. This cruise gave us a chance to explore more of Portugal’s interior at a slower, more relaxed pace. We started in Lisbon with two days of sightseeing excursions with a stay at an excellent hotel. We traveled to Porto to begin the river cruise along the Douro; during the trip we experienced a full-day excursion that provided interesting sites and an excellent meal with musical entertainment. Upon arrival to the Osfrid, the ships staff hosted a welcome reception. The river cruise was simply amazing. The entire staff of the Viking Osfrid were outstanding. The dining experience was exemplary, the chef catered to our special diet restrictions and we were never concerned that we would be served foods that contained our specific allergens. Viking’s selected ports and excursions along the Douro were superb; a great mix of historical sites, different types of wineries, architectural marvels, beautiful vistas, and quaint villages. The on-board demonstrations and evening entertainment added more local flavor and history of the Douro. We highly recommend Viking’s River of Gold Cruise in Portugal.
