This was my first Viking ocean cruise. The ship was a nice size - not too big, not too small - and our stateroom was beautiful. Staff was great, as expected, and the food was terrific. We really enjoyed (twice) the specialty Italian restaurant and also the Chef's Table specialty restaurant (twice) although one menu was Norwegian, so fish focused. We didn't enjoy that one as much. The only adjustment I'd like to see in the itinerary is add more time in Rome. Our visit to St. Peter's Square was great but the Vatican (inside) wasn't included. We also didn't seeanything else in the city. I'd been there before but my traveling companion (sister) hadn't, and we didn't even have a driving tour past the Coliseum or any other wondrous place. But please don't eliminate any of the other ports in Italy - they were all wonderful. Our favorite was Pompeii. I wish that Viking would add another day in Rome and, if that makes the cruise too long, drop Monaco. Maybe for those who really really want to visit Monaco, create an option where they get picked up or dropped off there or offer some sort of extension - ??? Otherwise, it's a great itinerary! There were so many enrichment activities on board, although we didn't participate as much as we should have. We booked the four day post-cruise extension in Athens & the area, which was really great. We were vaxed and boostered, but unfortunately tested positive for Covid a few days after returning home. We no doubt caught it during our stay in Athens - the hotel, city and country can't be clean and cautious like the ship can. Except for that unpleasant finale, it was a great trip! We highly recommend it.

Cabin Review

Penthouse Veranda Stateroom

Great cabin - very generous size and lovely amenities. The washing machines on our floor had some issues but that was just unlucky timing for us. Still got the laundry done - what a great amenity that is.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

Nice tour - wish we'd had more time there! Just a lovely place!

Monaco (Monte Carlo)

We had a good tour up the hill to the palace. We learned that the locals aren't allowed in the casino but tourists and other visitors are welcome to lose lots of money so the rich people can live there tax-free. Monaco was pretty at night. I vote to skip this port and add an extra day in Rome.

Florence (Livorno)

Another lovely place with too little time to explore. But we knew that, so just enjoyed the day. I've seen the statue of David before - wish that my traveling companion (sister) could have seen him too. Gorgeous architecture!

Marseille

Nice town! Had a walking tour there (I think?) and a pleasant wander after that.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Loved our time in St. Peter's Square but sure wish we'd had time to see other places in the city. We need at least two days here.

Sete

We were struck by the charm of this beautiful place. I'd gladly return the Sete.
