We chose Viking once again for the Mediterranean cruise which began in Venice and concluded in Barcelona. We booked our own air because our origin/destination airport was not in the Viking Air route structure and we had airline loyalty miles to supplement the fare we paid. We arrived in Venice two days early because of the uncertainty of recently reopened Europe and for risk mitigation in the event there was some sort of travel disruption. We found the daily testing for the Wuhan virus to be over the top but Viking made it painless enough.
Our room was amidships which made things that much more convenient for dining, the laundry, etc. Our ship, Sky, was in superb condition and we enjoyed the voyage. Croatia was great despite the rainy weather; both days there we chose the walking tour. Greece was also superb. Cruising the Strait of Messina provided the most turbulent seas of the voyage and made me happy we were situated near the polar moment of inertia. Italy was a little disappointing because weather caused our Italian Riviera excursion to be cancelled. We opted for the Pisa tour since we both knew Florence well from previous trips to Italy. Monaco was a high point with excursions to Nice and Eze in addition to Monte Carlo. In France, we chose the excursion to Aix-en-Provence which was excellent.
Spain was great as our disembarkation country and we extended our stay with a brief flight to Palma de Mallorca and several days of golf.
We have traveled with Viking a number of times for river cruises but this was our first ocean cruise. We upgraded from a Deluxe Veranda to a Penthouse Veranda. Although we don't use the room very much aside from sleeping we were quite pleased with the additional space and have chosen this category for our upcoming river/ocean combination.
