I chose this cruise as an option. I was offered by Holland America . The employees on the ship were doing the best that they could although I think most of them were brand new. The main reason for my review is the “orange package”. It was not what it appeared to be. Getting on and off the ship it worked wonderfully, but on the ship not so much. There was not a dedicated line for shore excursions or guest services. Service at dinner was slow and disorganized at the front desk. No orange line here either. The wait staff was pretty good. Very friendly. The reason I given was that previously, a guest had tripped on the orange carpet, which designates the orange line for people that pay for faster service. I was told that corporate said to remove the orange carpet. Thus there was not a separate line for orange guests. That was not in the brochure. While I was compensated for the lack of service. It was after I had to demand to see the guest services manager. Took me almost 30 of standing at the desk to get the manager to explain the lack of service i had paid for. The person at the desk tried to tell me that corporate offices would take care of it after the cruise. This was my 3rd inquiry in as many days.I was told that it would be taken care of. I have cruised on Holland America three times, and I know that corporate offices and the ships play one against the other trying to shirk responsibility. Overall, the ship needs to be retired. It does not match up to the standards of newer ships.

The cabins were OK. They had not been refurbished since the ship was built as indicated by the pink tile in the bathroom. And the many layers of caulk at every seam. I will not go into the mold and musty smell that lingered on the lower decks. Fans blowing air in the hallways almost ever day. The water pressure was low in the shower and it would change temperatures constantly. The TV we had in our room was barely watchable until the last day when they changed it out with a decent TV. We were on deck 2 so I can only assume they’re working their way down. The other main problem was the Wi-Fi on the ship. trying to get their app to work correctly and or consistently. It never really did. It was more trouble than it was worth. I do have to say the personnel were always very friendly and tried their best. They did a good job. I was impressed with the room stewards. But the rest could use a lot more training as needed in the customer service desk area. Drink Service in the casino is almost nonexistent and if you did place an order, it was at least 20 minutes to get your beverage. I just walked up to the bar and ordered my own drinks,a lot faster. The entertainment was very pleasant. We really enjoyed the piano bar in”Mix”. Last but not least, the temperature in the ship was extremely cold, the last three days of our cruise, even after asking staff to do something about it, and I heard from many other passengers, the same thing. they never did anything about it. Everyone was wearing parkas and coats in the world stage. As I said, before, the ship needs to be retired, or at least have its air conditioning system repaired.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin was ok. Water temperature issues in the shower. A/C did not work well the first 2 days. Very hot 28C. 82F. It was fixed. Then we froze the last 2 days. Temperature control does not function properly.
