My husband and I chose to go on our first river cruise in Germany in December because we wanted to visit the Christmas markets. We were extremely disappointed and will never cruise with Viking again. The cabin was small but adequate and was kept clean. We were disappointed with the food except for the German fare. It was very disappointing to have only one restaurant with very specific dining times. This wouldn’t have worked if we had any medical conditions. On the second day of our trip I went on a walking tour led by a guide hired by Viking. The tour guide left me alone in Holland and returned to the ship without me. He didn’t count his group before we left so didn’t know I was missing when he returned to the ship. I had lagged behind and the guide didn’t realize it. When our flight home was changed from Basel to Zurich (an airline problem) Viking told us to take a bus to the train to Zurich and make a hotel reservation. We are senior citizens with mobility problems and two pieces of luggage each. Viking should have done more to help us. I feel that Viking is a very unreliable company and I don’t ever want to be involved with them. I told them they could keep the $250 voucher they offered me. Please avoid Viking River cruises. This was our worst trip ever and I’m still having nightmares!
