Viking Octantis Review

Landings were excellent including crossing the Antarctic circle. Great wildlife sightings and excellent scientific staff and crew.

I mainly went to Antarctica for the adventure and it did not disappoint. We were well informed about each landing and what to expect. Staff were knowledgeable and helped point out interesting findings including wildlife and geology when off the ship and they also gave fascinating lectures in the Aula on their specializations. Ship was excellent including well designed rooms and activities. I particularly liked the fact that you could lower the window to take in the cool air or photograph wildlife/landscapes without having to go on deck. The blind kept the room dark, which was important to me considering the 24 hours of light most days. Special operations boat and submarine were great experiences, which also included informative background information. Food was generally good although I found the desserts to be mediocre; however, I can recommend the Norwegian apple cake. The captain was entertaining including his daily jokes but more importantly making sure guest experiences were optimized. Viking took care of you from the time you got off your plane in Buenos Aires until returning to the city including providing lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. Overall experience was very positive.
