We wanted to see the Great Lakes. Aside from Mackinac Island, the onshore options were very limited. We loved the special boat and the tour of all the "toys". However, most of the other options for excursions involved Zodiacs, canoes, or kayaks. I was having my hip replaced after the cruise so those options were not good for me. On the ship, the library was very nice with a puzzle or two. The massage at the spa was wonderful. Our room was very nice, the floor to ceiling windows were wonderful. The food was good but very repetitive due to what I thought were limited options.

My major complaint was the airline plans made by Viking. We were due to leave the ship around 5 am, cancelled due to airline changes. Back down for 7 am trip to the airport in Thunder Bay. Our flight was cancelled again. We were all in a very small airport area (1 long room) with very little options in the "snack bar". There was one worker who was very helpful once you were able to reach the front of the line (it took over an hour). With all of the people from Viking trying to rebook and make connections, each person spent a very long time changing their reservations. Finally, sandwiches became available around 12 or 1. One more flight was canceled and we finally departed around 5 pm. Arrived in Montreal with an hour to get to the flight to Atlanta and we literally ran through the airport (stopping again at Customs and TSA) and got to the gate just in time to find out the flight was delayed. We finally took off around 10 pm and arrived at Atlanta at about 1:30 am. Obviously, Viking is not in control of the airlines but they should at least make sure they have a person at the airport to help passengers with some sort of information. The emergency number for Viking that I called said the best they could do was a flight the next day, so I guess we were lucky to leave when we did.

All in all, I am not sorry we went on the cruise but I would not do it again. Viking staff were very pleasant and accommodating,

Cabin Review

Very comfortable bed, large room, wonderful views, nice bathroom. Plenty of storage space.
