Viking has great itineraries, and this Christmas Market trip along the Danube did not disappoint. The opportunity to visit the markets along with the typical sightseeing experience was extra special, just as the holiday treats added to the always excellent culinary adventures. We had ample time to explore and seek out local wines and liquors and graze our way through the street food in the markets and local bakeries and specialty shops.
The ship was comfortable, although we did learn that the lower cabins in winter are a bit cozier than the upper tiers. As always with Viking, the service was exceptional.
We enjoyed the selection of excursions, but as is often the case one excursion stood out above all others. In this case it was a Mozart Concert in Vienna. Performed in a very intimate royal chamber, the sound was incredible, and unknown to us the concert incorporated a pair of ballet dancers and a at times an opera soprano. This was an optional (extra charge) excursion, and well worth every penny - a highlight of the trip.
You expect cabins, especially in the lower price tiers, to be a bit tight, but Viking has designed theirs to make the most out of the space and we find them very comfortable and well organized. Adequate outlets (for US and UK plugs), we usually take one extra adapter. Cabin service is excellent. The movie selection doesn't change much even over the course of a few years, and although you don't spend much time watching TV, a bit more selection would be nice.
