Sail Date: Jan 2023
Cabin: Deluxe Balcony

We sailed on the MSC Meraviglia from 1/8-1/15/23, staying in cabin 10166. Initial booking was a bit of a chore as it took several calls to customer service to finalize the booking, then several more calls, with widely disparate answers each time, to get WiFi for our devices. And when it was time to cruise, it took multiple calls to get our e-tickets, as we couldn’t access them from the app or website.

Overall Impressions

We found the price of this cruise appealing, but after completing the cruise, we believe that the good price is mostly a case of ‘you get what you pay for’. The Meraviglia is a beautiful ship with plenty of open public spaces and comfortable lounge areas. She has a very dedicated and talented international entertainment crew, and we found all 4 theater/lounge shows very enjoyable and at least as good as most other cruises we’ve been on, including NCL, Virgin, and Carnival. Unfortunately, this is where the good journey ends, and we had quite a few disappointments during this voyage.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Balcony

The cabin was clean and fairly typical of a balcony stateroom. We had 3 in the room, with our daughter using the couch bed. The couch doesn't pull out into a bed, but instead is just the couch with a mattress where the cushions would be...about the size of a twin bed.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

We took the MSC offered tour of Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. The tour was interesting and the guide was knowledgeable and very fluent in English. However, the tour was with a large group (approx 50 people), and constantly waiting for tour group members took away from the experience.

Cozumel

We took the MSC offered tour of Tulum. This required ferry transportation to Playa Del Carmen, then bus transport to the Tulum site. The tour was very interesting, but as offered by MSC, it was a very large group (more than 50 people) which made it a bit difficult to enjoy. There was plenty of time afterwards for exploration on our own, which was appreciated. Also, Tulum itself has a little village at its entrance with lots of stalls hawking goods. One notable location here was Maria Bonita, a pleasant and refreshing restaurant and bar - well worth visiting if your Tulum tour has left you hungry.
