Sooo I really wanted to go on an RCL cruise, but my mother picked Carnival for our mini Mother/Daughter getaway. Both had an identical itinerary option for a short weekend trip to Nassau but Carnival was a lot cheaper. I really wish we would have shelled out the extra $100 per person for RCL. (Our suite on Carnival was $100 less than a standard balcony would have been on RCL)

>>>> I'll start with the good:

People were nice! This includes crew members as well as other passengers. It's always lovely when the staff memorizes your name (which is all the more special on such a short cruise) The saltiest/grumpiest crew member we met was the guy trying to up-charge us $2 for better tea options during tea time. He was a bit pushy and even though I would have preferred Chai or Earl Grey over generic Lipton, I passed because of his approach.

Cabin Review

Ocean Suite

Copy/Paste from my main review:

Our room smelled DISGUSTING. It smelled like a moldy wet dog exploded in there. I almost vomited the first time we opened the door. There was a wet spot in the middle of the floor .... I have no idea what they had cleaned up. but maybe someone got sea sick on the itinerary before us? I have no clue. My mother said it "just smelled like a really old wet carpet" but that wasn't comforting at all. We tried opening the balcony to get fresh air in there but it did not help. We called maintenance and begged them to help us. They sent a guy up with an air sucky thing and said he would leave it in the middle of the room for 20 minutes while we went to explore the ship. It didn't help. We ran into our room steward (she was VERY nice) and she asked if it was better, then we opened the door and even she was disgusted and kept apologizing. She said she would bring the air sucky thing in again while we were at dinner and I asked her if they had some air freshener or febreeze or anything that could help. After dinner, we got to the room to find a weird air freshener and it REALLY helped!!! It did not smell very good, and it also kinda made my stomach turn. It was a bajillion times better than the alternative but was still so unpleasant. We upgraded to a suite thinking we would relax in our room on an our balcony a lot. but that smell chased us out so we didn't have the vacation we had expected. I suppose it was really bad luck.

The water in our bathroom also smelled off-putting and so I felt it necessary to brush my teeth with bottled water.

Port Reviews

Nassau

I am not a fan of the port area. (there were sooooo many pushy people!) but once we joined our excursion and got to Sandy Point Beach, it was a perfect beach day.
