My husband and I selected this cruise for the opportunity to enjoy warm Caribbean waters while exploring a bit of the Amazon. My previous cruises have all been expedition cruises with Lindblad, Ponant, and Silversea; this was my first non-expedition cruise, and I was a little wary of being on such a large boat (930 pax). However, we had a terrific, though not perfect, time and I would definitely cruise with Viking again. Here's the rundown:
Ship: beautifully relaxed vibe with artwork and an amazing library scattered throughout. We never had difficulty finding a comfortable place to read, play games, or get a cocktail. I loved the lichen garden under the stairs. The library is fantastic: like visiting a summer cottage which has been in the same family for generations--it had a great array of books old and new, all in fantastic condition. So much fun!
Entertainment: John the guitarist in the Explorers Lounge was terrific and handled many requests smoothly. The classical duo and the pianist seemed fine but I didn't listen to them much. The band in Torshaven (the lounge) was a little too lounge-act-like for me but one night I stayed late and saw that the vibe changed in the late night to a more rocking time, and I enjoyed that. The entertainment in the theater was fine, meaning that it was entertaining though it didn't blow me away. Still, I enjoyed the tribute to Dusty Springfield, the Beatles' night, and the comedy/magician act.
Cabin was very comfortable and clean. The balcony is generously sized but the cabin felt a little cramped (access to the closet was tough given how close it was to the bed). The bathroom had nice heated floors and was large with good storage. I loved the vanity hidden in the desk but wish there had been a magnifying mirror available because when you flip up the desktop to make it into a vanity, you're a little far away from the mirror.
