This trip was from January 5th to16th in the Eastern Caribbean. We gave Azamara Onward a 3 out of 5 for good reasons. Azamara used to have excellent food and complimentary wines. Now, that has all changed since we last cruised on them at the beginning of 2022. Less expensive cuts of meat are now used - - beef, lamb, veal, and poultry resulting in tougher meat entrees; and now only 6 complementary wines - 3 reds and 3 whites that never changed - - all Azamara branded, all fine wines but never different - - how boring. The fish however was excellent.
The good news is the entertainment was excellent- - 2 production shows with 2 dancers and 4 singers. They all danced under the direction of the dance captain, Sabina Petrelli from Brooklyn, New York . All the other entertainers were excellent. As to the tours, we took tours on 3 different islands. Dominica, St Lucia, and Tortola. The most interesting of which was on Dominica where we visited an indigenous village with descendants of the Kalinago peoples that lived there for over 1,000 years! A very informative, and moving visit because these people had suffered many injustices in the past that the Government is now correcting.
Azamara is also testing Space X Starlink satellite service for providing hi speed affordable internet access to cruisers. Download speeds exceeded 60 Mbps and upload speeds exceeded 15 Mbps. While working well in the Caribbean, Azamara is determining if the service works in other parts of the world where they cruise. Unlike RCC and Celebrity which mainly cruise in specific locations such as the Caribbean or Europe, Azamara operates in many lesser traveled parts of the world.
Very comfortable cabin with lots of storage. Our cabin attendant took great care of us.
As always a fun port to visit. We were docked, so port access was easy.
