This was our sixth cruise and the second time we had done the Seine cruise. We had invited two good friends to join us on what we hoped would be another magnificent Viking cruise. The Covid pandemic had certainly impacted our planning and departure, but we were still hopeful. As always, the crew was welcoming and helpful, the hotel staff was almost entirely kind, efficient and went above and beyond to help us enjoy the trip. In the lounge however there was a lead bartender and one waiter who seemed angry to be there. Throughout the trip we were actually afraid we might do something to upset them more. Guests were behaving like Covid was a thing of the past so the crew finally gave up trying to get people to wear masks or socially distance. We four wore our masks at all times when we were indoors near other people, but we had no choice when we were eating in the dining room. We were grateful to be able to have many of our meals out on the deck in the gorgeous weather. We enjoyed all our tours and we’re blessed with almost entirely great guides. The ship was spotless and had delightful meals and superlative cabin stewards, as we always have had with Viking. But then people started to get sick. The staff and crew would not divulge whether it was due to Covid until it was just too obvious that several people were removed from the ship. The whole situation was just so poorly handled and disappointing, especially given the perfection of earlier voyages.
