MSC was the only cruise line sailing at this time of year in the Mediterranean, so this is what I had to choose. All my previous MSC sailings were bad, and I had said never again MSC.... Well, never never again.
Briefly - ship itself can't be faulted, maybe too much trust in a vessel winning the cruiser. Not so. Officers were non-existent the entire cruise except one brief (5-10 min) appearance from a lofty bridge looking down on us peons below! Very poor optics!!! Ships features were amazing, but .... the very costly Spa package was great if you were there during 1 hour in morning and 2 hours in afternoon when everyone else was eating. The massage was extraordinary, but silly me didn't ask the price before ($240+) for 80 minutes.. thus no more massages!
Worst were the restaurants - Best was the Buffet!!!!! Two different chefs obviously! Buffet chef had EXCELLENT prepared food for every day of the cruise. There was not a single thing at the buffet that was not FAR SUPERIOUR to the dining rooms, free and for-a-fee!!!!! Desserts don't make a meal, but they do leave a lasting impression; that is the ONLY short =fall in the cuisine of the Buffet chef! I literally had one entree, 1 main course, 0 desserts in the dining rooms that was enjoyable. AND, plain ole drinking water is NOT available at any restaurant, automatically!!! The Guest services desk said plain water was available to all, but the waiters would not serve it without paying for it!!!! I liter of 17 cent still water, 80 % wasted since I only wanted a small glass! Not sure what the charge would have been if I gave my card, but probably $3.50!!! Huge water waste, angry passenger, and BAD image for preserving the environment --- water waste and another plastic bottle to polute MY earth!
Everything was fine except no place to sit comfortable except the bed, which is for sleeping! A hard bench for luggage and a padded stool were my choices! A nice modest sized chair would have made the basic accommodation virtually perfect!!! No amenities - 1st day my hair comb became missing, NO combs were available anywhere on the ship. I even asked my very nice barber if I could buy one from him - not possible. No shoe horn... I know it's my fault for forgetting mine, but this could have made every change of shoes a pleasure rather than a cardboard agony. Everything perfectly clean. I think my cabin attendant changed my towels daily despite the sign and normal-practice to reuse if not on floor!
