We chose this cruise for the holidays as a family of 8 and for the itinary.
Gem is a smaller ship and was ill equiped for a Xmas- NYE+ cruise. We never left the port of Manhattan for 2 days , one for "high waves" and the other because the NY Port Auth. said we couldn't. ( not sure that was true but I degress).
The ship was cold in NY, The heat was not up to the task. It was bitter cold outside so decks were intolerable. People were allowed to leave the ship both days, as long as we were back on board for sail away, which changed many times. I could not leave, as I had fallen that first night on the stairs and injured my foot and leg)( I was to afraid to say anything to NCL for fear they would make me leave all together, ended on a scooter for the entire cruise and that is a whole other subject)
The cabin was clean but not kept clean by staff for lack of time, so we were often not touched until late afternoon. Dishes were left dirty on the tray in the room, steward was overwhelmed. Towels were not changed untl late afternoon as well, so when we were back to change for dinnr( we dress nicely) the room was still unkempt. Again he had no help, and said so, and apologized repeatedly.
