SAN FRANCISCO – HAWAIIAN ISLANDS Roundtrip Deck 15 M725 “Premium Deluxe Balcony”, a completely fabricated description I am an event planner, so hyper-critical. My mantra is that it takes no more effort to do things right than wrong. But you have to CARE.
Bottom line for us was that the ‘big stuff’ was great on this cruise, but the ‘little stuff’ drove us crazy. The crew was fabulous, the Captain out-maneuvered a very bad storm, keeping us comfortable and safe, food and drink were consistently excellent. The ship was decorated beautifully for the holidays. The internet was far better than I expected. My husband has some health challenges and he enjoyed the cruise … that’s really all that mattered this holiday.
MEDALLION & APP Even tho it hasn’t worked consistently in 5+ years, Princess still requires it, showing total disrespect for their pax. Pax were expected to know the difference between the medallion itself (blue plastic disk used onboard) and the phone app. Pax assumed they were at fault when it didn’t work. When it does work, it’s great fun; you can order goodies brought to you, like drinks, snacks, clean towels or an ice bucket. Most of the other features are unreliable or useless. You have to ‘wear’ the Medallion itself; it unlocks your door and sometimes tells crew members who you are.

While the tender experience was painful, the Zodiac whale watching on my birthday was fabulous. Maui Reef Adventures is a terrific choice, the boat is huge, stable and fast but open so you really enjoy the Maui experience. We saw 30+ whales, some of them really close. Crew was phenomenal. I'd fly back to Maui just to go out with them again.
