We are Diamond members but this was our first cruise on Royal since the pandemic. I chose this itinerary because it visited 7 islands in 8 days. 5 of the islands were new to use. Since everyday was a port day, I figured a small ship would be ok. The crew was amazingly friendly. It almost felt like they are using the smaller ships for "training". Our cabin attendant was new (he told us) and it was pretty obvious. The tv was not working properly. He had to find out how to program it. We had no refrigerator (never had a cabin where you had to ask for one). Since we preordered a water package we needed one. No robes, had to ask for them, no tissue, had to ask for them. He brought a box and put it on the counter and never put it in the actual tissue box holder the entire trip. He walked in our room 1 time while we were still in there in bathrobes just before getting ready for dinner. The strangest thing was on the morning of disembarking. We left the room at 6:30 am to get breakfast. He was right outside our door. I told him that we would be back to get our things. He asked if he could start cleaning the room. We said no. Then he said he wanted to get in to change the bedding. We again told him no. He seemed to get angry. We were out of the room by 7. Our assistant server was on his second cruise and it really show. He was nowhere to be found most of the time. Our main server was wonderful but very overworked. I think the head waiter knew about the situation because he helped every night after the 1st night. One of the main activates people was also new. Our cruise was his 3rd. None of these things made a real difference in our vacation. The real complaint we had was the food both in the MDR and Windjammer. The quality of the food has gone down tremendously. Most of the food was bland and under cooked. Bacon in Windjammer was served almost raw and rubbery. Chops was fantastic. Entertainment was fantastic. Overall, we had a great time!
