Dec. 2022 Norwegian Dawn from Tampa to the southern Caribbean
This 11 night/10 day NCL Dawn cruise from Tampa to the southern Caribbean exceeded my expectations -- and I have been on almost 60 cruises to date on most major cruise lines, from Carnival to Silversea. This itinerary is a nice mix of activity (5 islands) and relaxation (5 days at sea). Every aspect of this cruise merits 4-5 stars in my book, with one possible exception (more on that later). I recommend NCL and will be happy to cruise with it again. I think it currently offers some of the best values in the industry.
The Tampa cruise port is right downtown and convenient to the TPA airport, but I suggest arriving a day early, especially in winter, in case of flight/baggage problems if you are coming in from snow country.
My cabin was an outside obstructed view, but I could still see the ocean and the horizon line above the lifeboats. It was a bit small for the king-size bed, but I pushed the bed against the wall and my cabin steward worked around that (an example of his excellent service). Other outside and balcony cabins are larger. The bathroom was excellent in design, size, and convenience. Hot water was immediate -- sometimes a problem on other ships.
I recommend Arashi beach, near the California lighthouse and dunes. $5 round trip on the local bus line -- get the transit card at the downtown bus station near the cruise dock.
Walk a few blocks inland to the minibus station for a $3 ride to any of the 7-mile beaches.
