I wanted to experience the European Christmas Markets and this cruise delivered it. My cruise departed Basel, Switzerland on its way to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Along the way we stopped at numerous towns in Germany (Breisach, Mannheim, Rudesheim, Koblenz, Cologne, Dusseldorf), Strasbourg, France and Dordrecht, The Netherlands to wander and shop the Christmas Markets. A big plus with Viking is that they get the premium docking spots on the river and it makes it very easy to just walk off the boat and step into town. When the town was further away (Strasbourg), Viking provided shuttles into town and back to the ship on an almost hourly basis. If you tired of the markets, there were always optional trips to take, time to wander on your own or just relax in the ship's very comfortable and inviting lounge.

I had a standard stateroom which was very comfortable and had more than adequate space for my clothing and storage of my luggage. I was surprised by the large shower, good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The Freya bathroom amenities were a nice touch, no need to bring soap, shampoo or body lotion.

Meals were amazing, such a treat to be able to taste regional specialities. I got hooked on the Viking museli at breakfast and inquired about the recipe. A handwritten recipe from the breakfast chef was delivered to my stateroom within the day. The availability of fresh cookies, hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate after a full day of touring is a nice touch and holds you over to dinner, but doesn't spoil your appetite.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom

Cabin was very comfortable, adequate space for my clothing and luggage storage. Shower was quite large, had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Freya amenities were a nice touch. I enjoyed the musical selections on the TV and information on daily activities and upcoming tours and towns was readily available.
