We left out of Seattle on June 20 for a 7-day cruise to Alaska. Our stateroom with balcony was on the Aloha deck, cabin A433. I would discourage anyone from having a cabin on this deck since the pool is on the next deck up. While in our stateroom, we constantly heard people dragging chairs and tables on the deck (Lido) above us. This noise started at 5AM and lasted close to midnight each day. We wrote a written complaint and turned it in to passenger services. To make a long story short, we were eventually relocated to a mini suite that was on the Dolphin deck (D133). The customer service was outstanding. At one point, after listening to the movement of chairs and tables for 3 consecutive nights, we swore we would never do Princess again, but all that changed. Now, because of the great service we received on the ship, Princess will definitely be our cruise line for our next vacation. We had expected that the weather would be cool and rainy and we weren't disappointed. We encouraged everyone to dress in layers, but there was absolutely no need for winter coats. Temperatures were generally in the 50's and 60's. Regardless of the rain and fog, Alaska still was beautiful. Our first stop was Ketchikan. We took a shore excursion to the Misty Fjords and saw a pod of killer whales. The next day, before arriving in Juneau, the ship went into the Tracy Arms Fjords and got about a mile from the Sawyer Glacier. Even with the fog and rain, this was a spectacular site to see. Venturing on to Juneau we were greeted with more rain, cancelling our helicopter ride to the Mendenhall Glacier. With nothing else planned we spent a couple of hours in the Red Dog Saloon enjoying the piano player and drinking their world famous 'duck farts' - yes - you have to try one. From Juneau, it was on to Skagway where we did a dog sled ride (sleds had wheels). It was fun but because of the rain, the place was really muddy. We can highly recommend this excursion. Our last stop was Victoria Canada. Finally, we got to see the sun for a while and took a shore excursion to the Butchart Gardens. This is about a 45 minute drive from the dock. We arrived at 8:15PM and had a couple of hours to spend in the gardens. I am not a flower lover but found the gardens to be quite interesting. As night started to fall, the lighting in the gardens came on. Our assigned dining time from 6:00PM in the Vivaldi dining room. Our assigned table was number 165 and our waiter was Chino. The wait staff was outstanding. There are two restaurants on board where you can pay an additional charge to eat there. The Italian restaurant is called Sabatini's. They serve you a 15 course dinner that takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours to consume. The Sterling Steakhouse was OK. Having grown up in the Midwest and knowing what corn fed beef should taste like - their's didn't, even though they advertise their meat as being corn fed. We generally did the buffet on the lido deck for breakfast which was always good. All in all, a great trip.
