We chose this cruise because we wanted to see certain cities such as Rome, Pisa, Florence and Barcelona. We were not disappointed , but wished we could have spent more time in those cities. As always, the service of the entire crew was outstanding - warm, friendly and attentive to every detail. We did not get to meet the captain who was detained by official duties. David, the activities director, was very good especially at the daily calendar updates, and the use of the TV to get additional information and reminders was extremely helpful. Although some of the following comments contain some criticism, we want Viking to know that we had a wonderful time and always recommend Viking to friends who want to travel.
Realizing there would actually be no time to see Rome, we added two days in Rome at the beginning of the cruise. The Hilton was a dream hotel - very elegant and accommodating, and very well-situated! Some people told us they were disappointed that they had no time to visit Rome. I feel Viking's advertisement concerning time in Rome is misleading if one begins the cruise there. We also felt that the way the excursion offerings were handled - the more expensive cabins got the opportunity to choose first and so many were closed by the time we could choose - was rather discriminatory.
Neither of us thought the Swedish spa massage was worth the money. The procedure was not explained well and having to go through the ship in a bathrobe to get to the spa was somewhat embarrassing.
Small, but adequate. Loved having a small balcony. Bathroom great. Lack of drawer storage meant we had to live out of our suitcases and so they were always in our way since we did not want to lug them from under the bed once or more every day. Our cabin steward was fantastic, as was the service of all the wait staff, as well as all crew members.
