We chose to see Greece on the Viking ship Venus because of the itinerary. We went in December, the “Quiet Mediterranean” time. We were not disappointed. The scenery was still beautiful with flowers blooming, olives and oranges on the trees and best of all, no crowds!
We chose the 4 day pre cruise extension in Athens which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.
Our guide for 3 days shared his knowledge and stories as we visited the Corinth Canal, the Theatre at Epidaurus, the Oracle of Delphi, the Mycenaean Palace and Tomb of Agamemnon. So much history and Greek Myths coming alive before you. On our free day in Athens, we visited the National Archeological Museum. What an amazing collection! So glad we chose to that on our own. We also walked the Plaka, it is a beautiful but touristy area of Athens just near the Acropolis. Our final day in Athens we visited the Parthenon on the Acropolis with our Viking Guide and had a brief but informative tour of the new Acropolis Museum.
Our Cabin was delightful. We had plenty of storage, snacks provided in the mini fridge, king size bed and lovely balcony that we sat on often enjoying the views of ports and sea. Our steward was attentive and we love getting the Viking Daily News each evening for the next port. We did do room service one morning, our day at sea. It was nice to start the day in leisurely fashion.
