This is a large ship built in 2017. The design is elegant, and cabins have some nice features such as large-screen TVs, a good choice of films, serials and documentaries and on-line information. On the negative side, one gets the impression that every available space has been squeezed to create revenue generating cabins, at the expense of public spaces that are surprisingly limited and more constrained for such a large ship compared to other ships we sailed on. The number of bars and guest areas are actually smaller than on many smaller ships. The theatre is very tightly packed and lacks height and ambience. There is no library to speak of or any quiet study or reading space. The ‘library’ is actually a tiny space, featuring a single table (!!) seating two, and no books other than those left by guests. The pool areas are also smaller than on other large ships, the jacuzzis are all tiny, and there is no free sauna or steam room access. Another very disappointing feature was the very poor and limited entertainment options. On a 13 days cruise there were only 3 production shows, and those were less than inspiring. On the other nights, single recycled tribute singers were on offer, often the same people re-appearing on several days. The music program was also incredibly limited: one band, one duo and one guitarist on such a huge ship. There was no real place for dancing on board anywhere. The Vista lounge that would normally serve as a dancing / music venue had no music and was empty and dark most of the time. What passed for entertainment on board was mostly inane quiz and trivia shows, and poorly disguised sales presentations promoting art, cosmetics, jewellery, or therapies. The medaillon system, using a simple disc to access most services was ambitious but many of the features were not user friendly and difficult to use. The strongest aspect of the cruise was the food service – excellent range and quality in both the self-service and in the full-service restaurants. Overall, this was a rather disappointing experience. I cruised over forty times in the past fifteen years, and compared to other ships and cruises, Majestic Princess had by far the poorest entertainment and music program, and the most restricted and poorly used public spaces.
